About Exploratorium Golden Record 2010
In 1977, two NASA Voyager spacecraft were launched toward the far reaches of our solar system. Each craft bore a gold-plated disk—known as the Golden Record—inscribed with sounds and images chosen to convey to extraterrestrials a sense of life on earth. Among the dozens of images: sprinters at the Olympics, a supermarket, Jane Goodall with her chimps, the Great Wall of China, an X-ray of a hand, rush hour traffic in India.
